Malawi National Women’s Football Team captain Tabitha Chawinga, under her firm TC11, on Tuesday partnered Standard Bank of Malawi in donating writing materials and balls to her former primary school, St Dennis, in Rumphi District.
Tabitha made the donation under her initiative dubbed ‘Believe in Possibilities’ which aims at promoting talent in primary schools across the country.
St Dennis is the third school to benefit from the initiative after Mitawa and Mikombe primary schools in Phalombe and Thyolo district, respectively.

Tabitha said it is important for schools to promote talents as a way of ensuring that learners are well-prepared for the future.

“It is important for schools to promote talent among their learners. This is key to ensuring that learners benefit from activities that can shape their future. Talent is very rewarding nowadays and without it, one cannot find it easy to have a breakthrough in life,” Tabitha said.
She therefore asked teachers to desist from regarding sports as a pastime.
“Our teachers should know that sport is a very rewarding career capable of changing not only the learners’ lives, but also the entire country,” Tabitha said.
St Dennis Head teacher Nicholas Msukwa hailed Tabitha for remembering her former school.

“This donation will encourage our learners to work hard in class. It has come at the right time and we are all excited. The learners have every reason to feel proud and motivated in both their educational and sports endeavours. The fact that we have seen Tabitha here is, in itself, a big motivation to everyone,” Msukwa said.
TC11 Executive Director Theana Msolomba said they want to reach out to as many schools as possible.
“We are therefore calling on well-wishers to join our efforts. This is not something we can achieve by ourselves. This campaign needs support from companies, organisations and individuals,” Msolomba said.
