Malawi Women’s National Football Team striker Tabitha Chawinga has been nominated for the World African Woman in Sport award.
In a message posted on www.gstheawards.sports.co.za, organisers indicate that the award seeks to honour a woman who is impacting sport in Africa and going the extra mile to raise the profile of women’s sport on the African continent.
The Malawian has been nominated alongside Kenyan long-distance runner Faith Kipyegono and South African top female referee Akhona Makalima.
Tabitha has been nominated following her impressive performance while on loan at Italian Serie A side Inter Milan Women, where she scored 23 goals in 21 matches.
She made history as the first African female player to win the golden boot award last season.
