Malawi Women’s National Football Team and Paris Saint-Germain striker Tabitha Chawinga has been nominated for the 2023-24 Division 1 Arkema Player of the Season award following her outstanding performance in France.
She will compete against teammate Grace Geroyo and Lindsey Horan of Olympic Lyonnais for the top award.
The lethal striker has taken the French D1Arkema by storm as she is top of both scorers and assists charts in her debut season.
She is close to winning the golden boot award after scoring 18 goals, above second-placed Ada Hegerberg of Olympic Lyonnais. Tabitha has provided 11 assists in the D1 Arkema this season.
Both Tabitha and Geroyo have been key for PSG in all competitions this season. Geroyo has scored 11 goals.

Tabitha said she was humbled with the nomination.
“It feels great to be nominated for the D1 Arkema player of the season award,’’ the prolific striker said.
The striker has already won Player-of-the-Month award for February after her good performance in the league. Tabitha has also been nominated for the 2023 Cosafa inaugural Player of the Year award and Racheal Kundananji. The winner of the Cosafa awards will be announced on May 9.
Tabitha, who is on loan from Chinese giants Wuhan Jiangda, has scored five goals in the Uefa Women’s Champions League.

National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) Chairperson Adelaide Migogo said Tabitha deserved the recognition for living up to expectations.
“Tabitha works very hard always. She is professional and her football career keeps on getting better,” Migogo said.
She has also inspired PSG to the final of French de Coupe after netting four goals. She is also the leading goal scorer in the competition.
Last season, she won the Italian Women’s Footballer of the Year award after scoring 23 goals for Inter Milan Women in 21 matches. She also won the golden boot award–becoming the first African female player to achieve that feat.
In China, Tabitha won player of the year awards twice while playing for Jiang Sunning.
