Malawi Women’s National Football Team striker Tabitha Chawinga continued with her goal scoring reputation in her quest to win the golden boot award in France’s Division 1 Women’s league.
The Paris Saint- Germain Feminine forward was on target once as her side thrashed En Avant Guingamp 5-0 on Saturday.
Following the feat, Tabitha has caught up with Lyon’s striker Ada Hegerberg of Lyon, with 11 goals apiece.
However, Tabitha was more thrilled with the win than personal glory.
“Yesterday [Saturday], I scored and assisted in a 5-0 rout of En Avant Guingamp to increase our chances of qualifying for the top four finish. I am now temporarily level with the leading scorer,” Tabitha wrote on her Facebook page.

Following the win, PSG remain second on the table with 36 points from 15 games while Lyon are on top with 43 points from the same number of games.
Tabitha has a good reputation of winning golden boot awards in her debut season in all countries she has played since 2014 in Sweden.
In China, she won the same award with 17 goals in 2017.
Tabitha is on loan at PSG from Chinese champions Wuhan Jiangda and was recently named in the Caf Fifpro best XI.

The deadly striker also made history as the first African female player to win the golden boot award in Italy after scoring 23 goals in 21 matches while playing for Inter Milan Women on loan from Wuhan.
Meanwhile, National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) Chairperson Adellaide Migogo said Tabitha was a goal-getter.
“If you closely follow her record you will agree with me that she fights and gets what she wants. She is scoring and assisting which is important,” Migogo said.
Migogo then called for the Scorchers’ support because of the team’s potential to win titles.
“The Scorchers have been voted as the best national team of the year in Malawi Sport Awards following their exploits at Cosafa Women’s Championship in South Africa when they won gold.
“The Scorchers were also voted the People’s Brand of the Year at the 2023 Institute of Marketing in Malawi (IMM) Marketers Excellence Awards. I believe with adequate support the Scorchers can bring major trophies in the country,” Migogo said.
The Scorchers won the Cosafa Women’s Championship after beating Zambia 2-1 in the final at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville Township, Pretoria, South Africa in October, last year.
In individual awards, the Scorchers dominated after Temwa Chawinga scooped the player of the tournament and the Golden Boot Award with nine goals from four games.
