Malawi Women’s National Football Team striker Temwa Chawinga has taken the 2023 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Women’s Championship by storm as she leads the scorers’ chart with seven goals from two matches.
The Wuhan Jiangda striker scored a hat-trick in the 4-3 win over hosts South Africa in the Cosafa Cup opener at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday before scoring four goals in the 8-0 thrashing of eSwatini at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday.
She is the favourite to win this year’s competition golden boot award at this stage.
Chawinga said her focus was on team glory rather than individual accolades.

“I am happy that I am scoring goals but my aim is to help the team win matches and fight for the Cosafa Women’s Championship this year. It will be good if we win the tournament,” the talented forward said.
The former DD Sunshine (now Silver Strikers Ladies) striker has a chance to increase her goal tally when the Scorchers face Madagascar in a last Group A match at UJ Soweto Stadium Tuesday.
Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili also heaped praise on the striker.
“Temwa is a role model. I am always happy with her attitude on and off the pitch,” Fazili said.
