Vitumbiko Mumba has resigned from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) National Executive Committee (Nec), where he was a member.
Mumba, who is also Industry and Trade Minister in President Lazarus Chakwera’s Cabinet, made the announcement on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
He described the move as a peace giver that would allow him to concentrate on other equally important matters than what he called ‘Ndale Zothana’.
“Kindly be informed that after deep reflection for months, I have resigned as a member of MCP’s National Executive Committee (not as a member of the party). It will help me focus on issues that matter than man-made small-mega battles aimed at ‘kuthana’. It is just a waste of time and I no longer have time for such,” the post reads.
“Let those that have majored in that type of primitive politics focus on that while I focus on my constituency. I have one reason for this decision but there is a secondary one (point No.2 in this post) that has strengthened my resolve,” Mumba adds.

Mumba says one party cannot have a Nec whereby 80 percent of co-opted members are those that never expressed interest in contesting during the party’s convention.
“They never paid nomination fees but they are now in Nec. Majority, over 80 percent of those that paid hefty nomination fees and heavily campaigned [have been] left out completely. Instead, someone preferred mostly handclappers who cannot even question anything, opembedza mafano,” the post reads.
He said people should not be surprised that most primary elections have ended up in chaos as only one man was allegedly calling the shots while the rest feared to interrogate his decisions.
“This is Politics Over People which I don’t agree with. It is a matter of values and principles. And, secondly, small-mega lies by senior Nec members. I will explain this in detail after my court case as I don’t want to comment on matters that are in court,” he said.

He, therefore, said as a party member, he remains loyal to the party.
