Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has disclosed that 14 out of 16 clubs have qualified for professionalisation grant after fulfilling pre-access requirements.
This comes after Football Association of Malawi (Fam) released K80 million out of K160 million to Sulom.
Sulom increased annual subventions from K10 million to K20 million to each club this season.
Sulom Treasurer Allie Mwachande confirmed that the league governing body has released K70 million for 14 clubs after Creck Sporting Club and Baka City did not qualify for the first instalment.
“Indeed, we received money from Fam to be distributed to clubs. So far, only two clubs, namely Baka and Creck Sporting, will not get the first chunk as planned. They will get it upon fulfilling all conditions,” Mwachande said.

He said Baka did not qualify after failing to submit relevant documents whereas Creck did not apply for the grant.
The 14 clubs will each pocket K5 million as their 50 percent first instalment.
The clubs will get the second instalment in the second round.
On his part, Creck Chairperson Muhammad Selemani admitted that the club delayed in submitting the documents.

“We had problems with the set-up of this club. As you are aware, we are new in the elite league. But, all in all, everything is sorted out and we will submit the forms soon,” Selemani said.
Meanwhile, Silver Strikers Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba has said the club is yet to get first-instalment payment.
“The funds have [as of Tuesday] not reflected in our accounts yet, but we got the official communication from Sulom on the issue of payment,” Chimimba said.
Some of the conditions to be fulfilled by clubs include proof of a current bank account held under the name of the club.
Sulom is also expected support clubs with an additional K10 million.
This means, in total, each club will get K20 million as subvention this season.
