By Brenda Kayo:
Mzimba North Member of Parliament Yeremiah Chihana has refused to appear before a disciplinary hearing that was summoned by his party, Alliance for Democracy (Aford).
On Tuesday, Aford acting secretary general (SG) Linda Limbe summoned Chihana to appear before disciplinary committee members Thursday.
The party’s headquarters in Lilongwe was designated as the hearing site.
He is accused of announcing that Aford had endorsed former State president-cum-opposition Democratic Progressive Party leader Peter Mutharika as the torchbearer of their coalition in the September 16 2025 presidential election.

Chihana told The Daily Times Thursday that the acting SG has no mandate to call him to a disciplinary hearing as the party’s constitution does not recognise her.
“It is too difficult for me to be called by the acting SG, who is not provided for in our party constitution, and I do not know where they got the mandate to convene such a meeting.
“All those who called for the meeting are new and they found me in the party. I will meet with the party president and we will sort it out from there,” Chihana said.
However, Chihana has maintained his position that Mutharika is the only capable president to transform Malawi and rescue the country from socio-economic problems it is facing.

“It is high time Malawians stood with Mutharika because he is the only president that transformed Malawi by delivering development projects and promoting economic growth.
“The Tonse Alliance has failed us. Malawians should vote for Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika come September [16] 2025,” he said.
He said he would continue supporting Mutharika and that the party is also willing to support DPP in 2025 general elections.
When contacted, Limbe asked for ample time before she could comment on the matter.
