WANT TO REVAMP SILVER—Kulemeka
SHARE

The 2026 FDH Bank Premiership resumes this afternoon after a one-month break, and with it comes the start of what promises to be a tight and exciting final stretch of the season.

Four matches have been lined up on the opening day of the second round.

The pick of this afternoon is the match which can be likened to a clash of wounded buffaloes between Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

Both Silver and Wanderers lost their final matches of the first round.

Silver suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre whereas Wanderers lost 2-1 to Blue Eagles at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.

The two teams go into the match tied on 29 points from 15 matches but Wanderers are third above Silver on goal-difference.

Wanderers have a better goal-difference of 16 against Silver’s 13.

Either side has a chance to go top of the log table this afternoon as both teams trail leaders Eagles by two points only.

Eagles will face Bullets in another blockbuster fixture at Mpira Stadium Sunday.

Silver want to redeem their pride after a 5-0 loss to Bullets, a defeat that led to the sacking of coach Peter Mgangira.

Now, with Patricio Kulemeka at the helm, he has inherited a squad that might be low on confidence.

ONCE A NOMAD ALWAYS A NOMAD— Bob Mpinganjira

“We want to get to the top. We need to start the second round with a win. Mentally, we have prepared them,” Kulemeka said.

Wanderers, on the other hand, seek to return to winning ways after four matches without a win.

Coach Bob Mpinganjira was suspended before being reinstated after three weeks and this will be his first match on his return.

The two teams shared the spoils in the first round after a goal-less stalemate at Zomba Stadium.

The Nomads will be looking for their first win over Silver in three years.

Wanderers assistant coach MacDonald Mtetemera said the players were in the right frame of mind ahead of the match.

“During the past two weeks, we worked on the psychological aspect of the players. We accepted that we did not do well. We need to improve and we are very ready,” Mtetemera said.

Elsewhere, Ekhaya will face Kamuzu Barracks at Mpira Stadium whereas Luanar Mitundu will face Red Lions at Dedza Stadium. Chitipa United will host Mafco at Chitipa Stadium.
