The 10th edition of the biannual Art in the Park, which opened with a VIP launch on Thursday at Four Seasons in Lilongwe, ended yesterday with visual artists making more sales, according to Wildlife Environmental Society of Malawi (Wesm) Chairperson Nick Hall.
Running under the theme ‘People and Environment’, Hall said almost all artists sold some paintings.
“I asked a few artists for their impression of this event. The typical response is great. Artists exhibited high quality work and that attracted higher sales than last time. I do not have figures but artists made sales,” he said.
Hall also said that music provided by artists including Lulu was fun to the patrons.
“Wesm is also pleased because we have got new members and new relationships. We were delighted when the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Owen Chomanika, who was the guest of honour at the VIP launch, joined as a member of Wesm in his own personal capacity,” he said.

Hall further said that they want to learn from this event so that they come out bigger and better in their next event in November this year.
Lulu, who starred at the event for the first time, described Art in the Park as great.
“It is good to deliver art to fellow artists. They related way faster to my performance. It was a listening audience,” the singer, guitarist and producer said.
Batik artist Ellis Singano said Art in Park was well organised and that they made sales.

“It started well on Thursday with a VIP opening. Personally I brought 10 batiks and sold nine and other artists sold their works,” Singano said.
