Malawi Women’s National Football Team midfielder Faith Chimzimu has signed a three-year contract with Swedish giants FC Hacken.
This follows successful trials with the Uefa Women’s Champions League side in April this year.
The 18-year-old midfielder flew out of the country through Kamuzu International Airport (Kia) in Lilongwe Sunday after completing a dream move to Europe.
In an interview before departure, Chimzimu said she was excited with the deal.
“It feels great to sign for a big club. This is a lifetime opportunity for me. I will do everything possible to write history in Sweden,” Chimzimu said.

Chimzimu is the second female player to join a foreign club within a space of one year after Rose Kabzere moved to Montpellier FC in France.
The youngster urged Scorchers teammates to have self-esteem.
“I believe the sky is the limit. Discipline, too, is key for players to reach their potential,” she said.
Ascent Director Thom Mkolongo said he was confident that Chimzimu would thrive in Sweden.

“She has a good attitude on-and-off the pitch. I believe she will advance her career in Sweden,” Mkolongo said.
Chimzimu is considered one of the talented midfielders in Malawi Women’s football.
Her recent achievements include scoring in the 3-2 victory over Zambia’s Copper Queens in an international friendly match in February this year.
In addition, she helped Ascent win their first ever National Women’s Championship last year.
She was also part of the Scorchers squad that won the 2023 Cosafa Women’s Championship following a 2-1 victory over Zambia in South Africa.
Following her move to Sweden, Chimzimu has followed in the footsteps of Chawinga sisters Tabitha and Temwa, who started their football careers in Sweden.
The duo had stints with Kvarnvedens IK.
Another Scorchers striker Sabina Thom also played in Sweden between 2017 and 2019.
