The second meeting of the National Assembly in the 50th Session of Parliament commences Monday.
Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda said during the four-week meeting, Parliament is set to tackle a number of legislative and money bills, apart from discussing issues pertaining to the Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP).
“We will also have ministerial statements regarding policy work happening in preparation for AIP. We also have quite a number of statements coming from the Minister of Education, Minister of Lands and a number of statements that will come in the House,” he said Sunday.
Earlier, Parliament spokesperson Ian Mwenye said during the meeting, parliamentary committee and delegation reports on international parliamentary engagements will also be submitted.
“Expect the House to consider committee reports. As you know, parliamentary committees were meeting when the House was on recess.

“…the whole picture will be known tomorrow when the House starts its meeting at 2pm. The general public is free to come and observe proceedings of the House,” Mwenye said.
Meanwhile, good governance commentator Mabvuto Bamusi and political analyst George Phiri have asked members of Parliament (MPs) to prioritise discussions on challenges Malawians are facing.
“For example, the price of maize has risen and it is, in some locations, selling at between K30,000 and K40,000 per 50 kilogramme bag. Members of Parliament should demand answers on where Malawians will get the money for buying such expensive commodities,” Bamusi said.
On his part, Phiri said MPs should advise the government to ease down on borrowing.

“They (MPs) should look at this and see whether we, as a country, are moving forward or not,” he said.
The August house would meet from today up to August 18.
