The TNM Super League match between Silver Strikers and Mafco was marred by ugly scenes on Thursday when a supporter poured some fluid substance on Mafco goalkeeper Christopher Mikuwa during the match and on other players after the game.
Following the incident, Silver released a statement condemning the actions of the supporters.
“During the match, a supporter unlawfully entered the pitch and poured a fluid substance on the Mafco goalkeeper. Additionally, after the final whistle, another individual poured liquid on Mafco players as they made their way to the tunnel. These acts are alarming and represent a serious breach of sportsmanship and stadium safety regulations,” the statement reads.

The statement further states that the action of the supporters dents the integrity of the game.
“Such conduct is utterly contrary to the values of fair play, respect, and professionalism that Silver Strikers Football Club stands for. We consider these actions not only unsporting and dangerous but also damaging to the integrity of the game.

“The club does not condone any form of violence, intimidation, or pitch invasion, whether by fans or any individuals claiming to be associated with Silver Strikers,” it reads.
The incident happened a few weeks after the country hosted Caf Stadium Safety Workshop in Lilongwe. The Central Bankers have also said they will take necessary steps to strengthen security.
“We are launching an internal review and taking necessary steps to strengthen our security, ensuring such incidents do not happen again,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) President Gilbert Mittawa has said they will act with speed on the matter.
