Blantyre City Council set April 1 as the deadline for renewal of business licenses for all operators conducting business within the city.
BCC Director of Commerce and Industry, Macronnex George Kaulembe told journalists last week that the council would act according to provisions of the law.
He urged business owners to ensure they renew their licenses before the set deadline in order to continue operating legally.
Kaulembe said the council has already opened the renewal process and is encouraging all business operators to visit the Blantyre City Civic Offices to process and pay for their licenses in good time to avoid last-minute congestion.
“The council would like to remind business owners that they are required to pay for their licenses at the Blantyre City Civic Offices and collect a receipt upon making payments,” he said.

He said operating a business without a valid license is against the city’s regulations and warned that the council will intensify inspections after the deadline to ensure compliance among businesses operating within the city.
According to Kaulembe, business licensing plays an important role in regulating commercial activities and maintaining order within the city. He said the process helps the council monitor business operations, identify illegal enterprises and ensure that all businesses comply with the regulations set by the council’s various directorates.
