“The processes of nominating and identifying the athletes started a few months ago when proper structures were put in place to identify and scrutinize possible candidates for the awards.
“The process involves requesting nominations from all sports associations and the media. After the nominations have been submitted, the media committee meets and scrutinizes those that have been nominated to see if they are worthy of being recognised or nominated,” he said.
Madise said after the media committee finishes scrutinizing the nominated names and compiling the raw data, an adjudication committee meets and selects the top three athletes that will compete in each category on the night of the event.
“Lastly, the selection committee scrutinizes the top three names in each category and selects the winners in every category. The whole process of nominating and selecting the athletes is reviewed by independent external auditors so that the process is credible without any bias or favouritism,” he said.

Sports associations have since finished submitting names of athletes and administrators they believe have performed well in 2023 with the media having also completed the exercise yesterday.
Sports Council Marketing and Research Committee Chairperson Gladson Kuyeri said the budget for this year’s event has been pegged at over K100 million.
“In order to raise this amount of money, we have partnered with the Institute of Marketing in Malawi. We want as many companies, individuals and organisations to come forward and support this great event.
“We have therefore come up with four sponsorship packages of platinum, gold, silver and bronze. These are ranging from K20 million down to K5 million with various benefits. So we are inviting players on the market to utilize this great opportunity to sell their merchandise through the 2023 Malawi Sport Awards,” Kuyeri said.
