ON STAGE—Musa Keys performs
SHARE

By Henry Chulu:

Lilongwe was chockfull with events on Saturday, the main ones being a Clash of Titans –Malawi Na Zambia Edition featuring acts such as Tay Grin and Zambia’s Yo Maps at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) whereas Illusionz hosted South African artist Musa Keys.

Fans were divided on the day as the two shows were taking place on the same day, same night and closer.

But despite this, fun lovers patronised the two shows with each getting its share.

At Illusionz, Musa Keys gave out his all and impressed the audience, having failed to show up for gigs in the country on several occasions.

Real name Musa Appreciate Makamu, the record producer, known for his 2021 single ‘Vula Mlomo’, which was certified double platinum in South Africa, did not disappoint as people sang along to most of the songs he performed.

The artist, who performed for close to an hour, jumped on stage soon after Achina Gattah Ase’s performance and went straight to business.

After his performance where he connected well with the audience, the artist then went on to show his skills on the decks.

“Thank you Malawi for the support. I am happy to perform here after failing to come on several occasions. I hope to come back again,” he said.

Illutionz proprietor Martin Nyirenda said they would continue their feats of giving people exceptional shows.

“We had other shows in town but people still turned up for this gig. We are happy that people have enjoyed every moment. For us, our aim is to continue giving our clients and Malawians the best when it comes to entertainment,” Nyirenda said.

He said Malawians should watch the space for more exciting shows they have lined up that will feature both local and international acts.

“It is not just about hosting shows but as Illutionz, we are looking at concerts that will leave a mark,” Nyirenda said.

DJ Nathan Tunes, who also starred at the event, said he enjoyed every moment.

“People were given a treat. I enjoyed myself as an artist and I am looking forward for more of such,” he said.

At BICC, the Clash of Titans—Malawi Na Zambia Edition also lived up to its billing, attracting a good audience that got treated to sounds from Tay Grin and Yo Maps as headliners, with supporting acts such as Onesimus.

There was a special moment when Tay Grin and Yo Maps came together to perform the track ‘So Mone’, which continues to enjoy airplay in the country.

Tay Grin performed at BICC having just returned from the United Kingdom.

“Great show. It was advertised for less than a week but people came out. The energy was good with a great line-up, the entry fee was reasonable as well. It has been sometime since I performed in the country,” the artist, popularly known as Nyau King, said.

Onesimus, who has just released his romantic song titled ‘Controller’, also described the show as exciting.
