Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has said it will build strong governance structures to ensure transparency and accountability.
Fam President Fleetwood Haiya made the remarks at the end of a two-day Fifa induction for the association’s new executive committee in Lilongwe on Tuesday.
Haiya said there is a need to improve on how the association conducts its business to transform the game.
“We have learnt a lot on governance issues, especially on clear separation of powers for Fam stakeholders like president, executive committee, standing committees, member associations and the secretariat,” Fam’s website quotes Haiya as saying.
He said during the induction, the executive committee learnt how best the association can utilise its Fifa allocation for the good of the game.

“After the induction, it was the right time to finalise our strategic plan. The Transforming the Game Aagenda now has to turn into an official blueprint for guidance. So, this session has come at the right time.
Fifa Head of Development Programmes-Africa Solomon Mudege led a five-member delegation which conducted the exercise.
Mudege hailed Fam for prioritising strategic planning.
“The sessions helped us to make the committee aware of the available support from Fifa. We also shared our thoughts and advice on how best the leadership of Fam can work together with the rest of the stakeholders for the good of Malawi football.

“We discussed how they want to move forward and structure the strategic plan. We have given our advice and input and will remain in contact as Fam engages its stakeholders in consulting, finalising and implementing its plan,’’ he said.
The Fifa delegation included Development Programme Coordinator Silmara Sousa, Member Association Finance Services Coordinator Meryem Atouk, among others.
