Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Wednesday unveiled season six of the Zamadolo Airtel Top 8 Cup at Mpira Village in Blantyre.
Fam First Vice President Jabbar Alide said the competition has greatly contributed to the development of football in the country.
“We are very happy to be associated with Airtel Malawi whose sponsorship is the reason our football fans patronise Airtel products and services. We remain overly opmistic that Airtel will continue to grow even more with this sponsorship,” Alide said.
Airtel Malawi Managing Director Charles Kamoto said fans will watch all of the competition’s matches on Airtel TV through Mpira TV.
“This year, we have brought football closer using mobile phones with our revolutionary Airtel TV mobile application. We are also happy to see that Fam, who are our partners, went into partnerships with some of the leading media houses in the country to broadcast the games live on radio and television besides offering further coverage through print and online media platforms.

“We are happy to announce that fans, coaches and players will all benefit from this sponsorship,” Kamoto said.
The biggest match of the competition, as it gets started, will be between Silver Strikers and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers on September 23.
Silver Board Member George Chiusiwa said they are ready to take on Wanderers.
“All we are asking for is fair officiation. We want our referees to guard against favouring one team. We want to make history by winning this cup for the third time. But officiation has been a very big problem recently in the country and we are worried,” Chiusiwa said.

Wanderers Chief Executive Officer Roosevelt Mpinganjira said they also want to win the cup.
“Silver should indeed be worried because they will face a team that is enjoying good form at the moment. We also want to win this cup this year. We will also make the same appeal to referees; that they should exercise their duties diligently,” Mpinganjira said.
In the other quarterfinal fixtures, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will take on Civil Service United while Blue Eagles will line up against Moyale Barracks, with Kamuzu Barracks facing Mafco in an all-Malawi Defence Force affair.
Silver first won the Cup in 2017 whereas Eagles lifted it the following year before the Central Bankers reclaimed it in 2019.
Bullets won the cup for the first time in 2021 but lost it to Wanderers last season.
This year’s sponsorship of the competition is at K97.7 million from K75 million for the 2022 season.
