It was cold on Saturday night in Blantyre but this could not repel fans, ruled by young people, from enjoying a July Madness Blantyre Edition at Green Valley Gardens.
Organised by Beerland Festival, the event seemed like it would not manage to attract the numbers but come the night, the audience was imposing.
Ladies as usual dressed to kill and did not mind the coldness, with some in bum shorts and crop tops and sun outfits, as if it was summertime while others could not brave the tough weather and instead settled for winter wear.
Hosted by MBC’s DJ Love, there was music from the decks done by different artists, both local and international, that people relished, served by DJs Kenny, Flame, Mighty Virus, Aux, Cyphen and Africa The DJ.
There were actually moments when the fans sang along to some of the songs that the DJs dished out.
There were also special performances that came from artists such as Achina Gattah Ase and Biggie Lu, who is well-known for his amapiano vibes.
Apart from music, patrons enjoyed food such as chips, chicken, hot dogs, drinks alcoholic and non-alcoholics as well as cocktails.
There was also face painting provided by visual artist Tee Mlinga and other games that people enjoyed during the event.
During the event which also saw some young people selling clothes and wrist watches, fans enjoyed Shisha and 360 video booth.
Rapper Phyzix, who is currently working on his 15th album, described the event as central for fun, networking and at the same time supporting fellow young people’s businesses.
“Apart from the owner of Beerland Festival being a friend, I just thought of coming down to chill. There is just so much here and I am happy to support fellow young people. We all cannot be employed, some are entrepreneurs and for them to grow, we need to help them,” Phyzix said.
Another musician Sam Smack, who is the band leader of Zembani Band, applauded organisers for staging such an event.
Beerland Festival recently held a similar event in Lilongwe.
