The country’s financial market dealers meet in Mangochi this weekend for the 2023 Financial Market Dealers Association (Fimda) Annual Conference.
Fimda President Leslie Fatch said that financial markets are like the oil that keeps the engine going.
Fatch said the conference is therefore meant to discuss how the financial markets can support and facilitate the attainment of Malawi 2063 economic and development goals.
The conference will be held under the theme the Role of Financial Markets in the Attainment of MIP1 Pillar 1: Agricultural Productivity and Commercialisation.
“We are well aware of the challenges being faced by the economy and how the country has come up with a plan on how to address these challenges. As financial market dealers, being the catalysts for the economic development, we have taken the responsibility of ensuring we play our part in the drive to achieve these goals.

“As such, we feel the time is right for the financial markets to take an active role in facilitating the attainment of the country’s economic targets,” Fatch said.
The conference is expected to bring together a variety of experts who will present on topics such as capital raising, role of foreign exchange markets, structured agri-finance products, role of development banks in agri-finance, and practical examples of how development financial institutions can assist in building capital in the drive for the agricultural productivity and commercialisation.
“The theme for the conference promotes the first pillar for Malawi 2063 vision.
“As such, we hope this conference acts a stepping stone towards opening financial discussion for inclusion in sectors that would have been difficult to enter into or rather having access to well-structured facilities,” Fatch said.
