Malawi National Football Team, the Flames have climbed three places up on the latest Fifa world rankings to position 129 from 132.
The world football governing body released the July rankings on Thursday.
Currently, the Flames are 37th on the continent. This is despite poor showing for the Flames in recent matches in all competitions.
The Flames have only registered one victory in the last five competitive matches in a 1-0 win over South Africa in the first leg of Nations of African Championship (Chan) playoffs in May this year.
But they lost 2-0 in the second leg as they exited the competition 2-1 on aggregate.

This was followed by 1-0 defeats to Lesotho and Angola at the 2025 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
Malawi shared the spoils with Namibia following a goal-less stalemate.
In March this year, Malawi lost 1-0 and 2-0 to Namibia and Tunisia respectively in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
Last week, Malawi lost 3-0 to Botswana on post-match penalties after a 1-1 stalemate during the 61st Independence Day celebrations at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Sports analyst Parry Chinyama said the Flames have benefited from other teams’ inactivity.
“I think the rankings are based on the matches played in May. Secondly, most of the nations were inactive when the team [the Flames] were playing,” Chinyama said.
Morocco remain the top ranked team in Africa and 12th in the world.
This is due to their consistent performance in all competitions.
Senegal are second on the continent and are 18th in the world whereas Egypt are third on the continent and 34 globally.
Argentina are the top ranked team in the world followed by Spain and France respectively.
England are fourth in the world whereas Brazil are fifth.
