The Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, will face Lesotho’s Likuena in an international friendly match in November this year.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Fleetwood Haiya confirmed the development Sunday.
“We are playing, away, a friendly match with Lesotho in November, since the August camp will be for World Cup qualifiers against Namibia and Equatorial Guinea in September while in October World Cup qualifiers will be against Liberia and Sao Tome and Principe,” Haiya said.
The Flames have only registered one victory in the last five competitive matches.
That was a 1-0 win over South Africa in the first leg of Nations of African Championship (Chan) play-offs in May this year.

But they lost 2-0 in the second leg as they exited the competition 2-1 on aggregate.
Then followed 1-0 defeats to Lesotho and Angola at the 2025 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
Malawi shared the spoils with Namibia following a goal-less stalemate.
In March this year, Malawi lost 1-0 and 2-0 to Namibia and Tunisia, respectively, in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

Last week, Malawi lost 3-0 to Botswana on post-match penalties after a 1-1 stalemate during the 61st Independence Day celebrations at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

In June this year, Flames coach Kalisto Pasuwa said he was building a team for the future.
“We are building a team that can compete at a higher level in the future,” Pasuwa said.
Meanwhile, Haiya has said the Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, will also face Lesotho in August or September this year.
The match will be part of preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) qualifiers against Angola in October.
This will be an unprecedented seventh friendly match for the Scorchers this year, having played against Zambia, South Africa, Morocco and Ghana.
But the Scorchers have only won one match in six matches.
They beat Zambia’s Copper Queens 3-2 after suffering a 2-0 loss to the latter.
In April, Malawi lost 3-0 and 2-1 to South Africa before they lost 4-2 and 3-1 to Morocco in Casablanca and Ghana, respectively, last month.
