Secretary for Trade Christina Zakeyo has said the government will do whatever it takes to build the capacity of women entrepreneurs in the country.
She said this on Monday during the opening of Comesa Federation of the National Association of Women Business (COMFWB) Malawi Chapter training in Lilongwe.
“COMFWB, with support from the European Union through the European Development Fund (EDF), seeks to train women entrepreneurs who want to understand marketing of goods and services, product branding, logistics, and supply chain management,” Zakeyo said.
She, however, said the ministry of trade, together with Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC), is working towards enhancing access to trade in Africa and outside Africa for all entrepreneurs, including women.

On his part, the executive director of the COMFWB, Chikakula Mithi, said the organisation is expected to train 200 medium-scale businesspeople in the 12 Comesa member countries, including Malawi, on the marketing of goods and services.
“We want to build the capacity of women entrepreneurs in the Comesa region on market and trade opportunities to overcome barriers to internationalisation and value addition,” Mithi said.
One of the women entrepreneurs, Eliza Nkhwazi, said the training has come at the right time, as they will have the capacity to do business on a larger scale.
“The women that have gathered here have been working with various institutions, and we have the potential to grow in the coming three years and to create jobs in the country,” Nkhwazi said.
