Hockey Association of Malawi (Ham) has commended Hockey Development Federation (HDF) for organizing a day-long hockey camp for young players.
The camp was held at National Hockey Stadium in Blantyre yesterday.
Ham President Wanthaza Mughogho described the initiative as a commendable move, saying the association will tap from the academy.
“As we are focusing on year 2024, it is in our plans to establish junior national teams at various levels such as under 12, 14 and 16 for both girls and boys teams. We welcome Hockey Dreams Foundation programme because it is complementing our efforts in developing hockey in the country. We will surely select some players from the academy which is identifying and nurturing talent,” Mughogho said.
HDF Head Coach Geoffrey Gama said the initiative will help to prepare under-21 players for local and international events.

Gama said the initiative aims at helping young players to develop a better future through hockey.
“We do this by developing sustainable hockey communities. The hockey pitch provides a background for local learning opportunities which see coaches and kids from communities with challenging circumstances come together through their shared passion for the sport.
“Together, they play, share, learn and grow. Hockey Dreams Foundation is there to assist the youth in realising their ambitions for a better future. This also helps players and coaches of today to gain confidence and competences to become tomorrow’s game changers,” Gama said.
