Kings Foundation Schools has pumped K12 million into the Pemphero Mphande Short Story Writing Competition.
The competition, which is in its third year, will this time around lure participants from secondary schools, colleges and universities in separate competitions.
Speaking during the launch of the competition in Lilongwe, Mphande said the sponsorship will enable more students to partake in the competition.
“The sponsorship is a big spur not only to us as the owners of the competition but also to the students who will be taking part in the competition because we are looking at the value of the prize.
“For the secondary schools, the top winners will be given a scholarship to study at the schools; that is, a boy at Kings Foundation, Ntcheu campus and a girl at Rose Hiwa campus,” he said.
He added that for tertiary, the winner will pocket K400,000.
On her part, Kings Foundation Director of Academics, Chimwemwe Guluka, said that it pleased the institution to sponsor the initiative to inculcate communication skills in students.
“We want to integrate the spirit of reading in learners, since most schools offer literature as a subject. As such, we want to encourage our learners to embrace writing,” she said.
