Two Flames legends Kinnah Phiri and Lawrence Waya have said the just-ended Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) has exposed the need to involve legends at different sectors of the game.
Waya said Afcon competition has underscored how other nations utilise legends at various capacities of the game.
“As a nation, I hope we have observed that, in other countries, legends are not left to rot but contribute to the development of the game; be it in coaching, scouting, technical or administrative roles of the game.
“This year’s Afcon has shown how our colleagues are tapping knowledge from legends. This is what is supposed to be happening in Malawi too,” Waya said.
On his part, Phiri made similar remarks and added that legends for all sporting codes should be given different roles to help develop various disciplines.

“I hope we have noticed that our counterparts are working jointly with legends because that is how knowledge is passed and shared. All the big names were there, supporting their teams in different capacities. In fact, it should not only be legends for football only but for all other disciplines,” Phiri said.
Both Waya and Phiri applauded Jim Kalua for founding JK Productions to look into the welfare of former players and administrators.
Meanwhile, JK Productions Vice Board Chairperson Justin Saidi has said plans are underway to provide medical and funeral cover to legends that are affiliated to the body.
