Malawi’s football legends will face their Zambian counterparts in an international friendly match at Champion Stadium in Mponela, Dowa District, on December 28.
This will be third match between the two sides and the second consecutive match in Malawi after they played out to goalless stalemate in December last year.
The first meeting between the two teams was at David Kaunda Stadium in Chipata, Zambia, in 2023 which the Flames legends lost 2-1.
Football Legends Association (FLA) chairperson Jim Kalua said preparations for the match were underway.
“The game is on. Currently, we are trying to align ourselves with our stakeholders. We are optimistic of hosting a successful match,” Kalua said.

He said the association would soon engage Football Association of Malawi (Fam) on preparations for the match.
“We have a working partnership with Fam and we rely on them on logistical issues,” Kalua said.
He said they will play at least two matches with local teams as part of preparations for the Zambia clash.
Initially, the football legends were scheduled to face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana legends.

Meanwhile, Flames legendary striker and coach Kinnah Phiri has been sworn in as an FLA board member.
The swearing in ceremony took place at FLA offices at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Friday.
Phiri was the only board member yet to take oath of office.
“It is an honour to serve as a board member for the legends’ association. I will continue to work extra harder to improve the welfare of our former footballers,” he said.
Recently, FLA also swore in some of its key members including Kalua, second vice chairperson Justin Saidi, General Secretary Solomon Mchawi, Peterkins Kayira, Young Chimodzi, Rashid Ntelera, Victor Msowoya, Anthony Msendema, Ashraf Partridge and Khumbo Phiri.
Saidi described Phiri as a dedicated member of the association.
“He is one of the dedicated members of the association. His experience is very important to drive the association forward,” he said.
Each of the trustees has a five-year mandate at the association.
