Afrigames which has a flagship project called Mizu that features animated Malawian childhood songs such as ‘Galuyu Ngwa Ndani’ has made a vast step by premiering its season two.
The team behind the initiative includes Mphatso Stiles, Jeremiah Chienda, Rodney Msuku, Antonia Nazombe and Mark Saiwa.
Antonia said they fashioned the enterprise having observed that the new generation of kids spends more time indoors than they did outside, playing and singing the traditional childhood songs and usually watching Television.
“So, we decided to package the songs in a digital format that is more appealing to them so, that they do not lose out on their heritage and in that way, we could preserve our heritage and pass it on to other generations,” Antonia said.
She said that since we are part of a global village, they want to share “our heritage with the world”.

“The digital animations allow us to do that. We have received extremely positive feedback from around the world and we collectively reached over 50,000 views on our YouTube page alone from the first season,” Antonia said.
She said for now the full videos of the songs were available only on YouTube.
“Right now we split all the necessary roles amongst ourselves, we are not a full-fledged company but the two people in the partnership, who have specific roles, are Rodney (illustrator) and Mark (animator),” Antonia said.
She also said that they have songs from season one available on Spotify under Mizu Malawi.

“The fact that this is created by a group of young people with a passion and the need for Malawian children’s content, there is need to do more, this is an initiative that allows people, who want to support financially to join,” Antonia said.
She said that a lot of Malawian kids were missing out on their culture including speaking local languages and that their hope is seeing some cool characters they can identify with on Television to make things more likeable.
