Parliament has cleared the way for the modernisation of Malawi’s payment system by approving legal reforms that remove cheque-based transactions from the country’s financial framework.
The reforms came after lawmakers Thursday passed the Deposit Insurance Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Payment Systems (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the Financial Crimes (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
