Communication students Chikumbutso Banda and Lauryn Zumazuma were over the weekend crowned Mr and Miss Culture 2026, respectively.
This happened during the Unima Cultural Weekend in Zomba.
Banda, who is in his final year, and third-year student Zumazuma outclassed other contestants during the third edition of Unima Cultural Weekend.
“I am incredibly honoured and grateful. Being crowned Mr Culture Unima 2026 is a call to service. I am deeply honoured that the Unima community has trusted me to represent our rich cultural heritage,” Banda said.

The two day event, which was aimed at promoting and preserving Malawian traditions among students, brought together students and community members to celebrate the country’s rich cultural diversity.
Festivities began on Friday with a bonfire and open air gathering that featured music and traditional dances.
The night was alive with traditional dances such as Chitelera, Manganje, Chindimba and Tchopa.
Saturday marked the climax of the celebrations as students and visitors from surrounding areas—including Jali, Chilupsa, Thondwe, Mayaka, Songani and Sogoja—showed up.
