The National Registration Bureau (NRB) has announced plans to embark on a campaign that will culminate in the registration of eight million births in the third phase of the National ID outreach registration exercise.
The 2023 outreach registration exercise is being implemented in a phased approach.
NRB Principal Secretary Mphatso Sambo told this publication that this is an extension of the mass child registration exercise that targeted three districts.
Last year, NRB implemented the pilot phase of the National Birth Registration (Mass Child Registration) in the three districts of Karonga, Lilongwe Rural East and Mwanza.

Sambo said, this time, NRB wants to record all births and give out certificates across Malawi.
“NRB will provide more details on how the exercise will be executed before the beginning of the third phase.
“Many people have been complaining that it was difficult to get birth certificates after children were born. But we are here with the good news that this exercise will commence soon and we expect that people will be ready to register births,” he said.
Meanwhile, NRB has said it will commence phase two of the National ID outreach registration exercise this month.
