Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) affiliates have ganged up and called for an annual general meeting (AGM) after accusing the body of working against its own manifesto.
According to a letter dated April 20 2024, affiliates are mobilising themselves to force Nam to hold an AGM within 14 days.
“We pen this letter with a heavy heart, fuelled by the collective disappointment of netball enthusiasts across our nation. As the concerned district Netball Chairs and other netball community, we express our profound dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs under your leadership. The promises made during your campaign were mere words; they were a beacon of hope for our beloved sport. Regrettably, these promises remain unfulfilled, casting a shadow over the integrity of our association,” the letter, which has signatories from Mzuzu, Chiradzulu, Mulanje, Balaka and Nkhotakota, reads.
“The promise to secure additional sponsors for our netball league across the nation remains unfulfilled. Our players, coaches and fans eagerly awaited the influx of financial support to elevate the game.
“Transparency was a cornerstone of your campaign. But it is [at] zero [rate]. However, the capacity [sic] surrounding financial reports raises concerns. The failure to present an annual financial statement undermines our confidence in Nam’s financial management,” the letter reads.

One of the signatories Ken Phiri, who is Northern Region Netball Committee General Secretary, confirmed the development, saying it had been leaked before most affiliates had signed.
“More affiliates are expected to sign but others felt that we were taking too long, hence leaking the letter. But we stand on our grounds because they are failing to do what they promised,” Phiri said.
Nam General Secretary Isaac Chimwala said they are unaware of the letter.
“We will respond accordingly to the issues if they officially present their grievances,” Chimwala said.
