The country’s national women’s football champions Ntopwa are keeping their fingers crossed ahead of tonight’s fundraising dinner slated for Golden Peacock Hotel in Blantyre.
Gospel artist Ethel Kamwendo, Kamuzu Barracks, Great Angels and Lady B are set to perform in support of the Blantyre-based side.
The Amaghetto Queens have a deficit of K25 million for their trip to Durban, South Africa, where they will represent Malawi in the Caf Women’s Champions League qualifiers involving Cosafa teams.
The team’s owner and technical director Isaac Jomo Osman said they are optimistic that the fundraising concert will persuade well-wishers to support the team.
“Everything is set for the fundraising dinner. We have one of the greatest lineups to entertain patrons. The likes of Dr Ethel Kamwendo Banda, Great Angels, Kamuzu Barracks and Lady B are all huge names in Malawi music.

“We are hopeful that well-wishers will come in large numbers to support us and get entertained,” he said.
Osman said money realised from the dinner will help the team make the trip for the qualifiers, which are set to run from August 30 to September 8.
Ahead of the tournament, Ntopwa have roped in veteran striker Linda Kasenda from Civil Service United Women and Bullets Women’s Limbikani Chikupira.
Ntopwa were drawn in Group A of the competition alongside Green Buffaloes of Zambia, Double Action Ladies of Botswana and Lesotho Defence Force.

Ntopwa will wrap up their group stage campaign against Double Action on September 4 at Princess Magogo Stadium.
Group B comprises Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, eSwatini’s Young Buffaloes, Olympic de Moroni from Comoros and Mozambican side Costa do Sol.
Two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals of the competition.
The Group A winner will face the runner-up in Group B and vice versa.
Champions of the contest will qualify for Caf Champions League finals to be staged in November this year.
Sundowns are the competition’s defending champions.
