Capital Oil Refining Industries (Cori) has unveiled a K20 million sponsorship package for Ntopwa Women’s Football Club.
Unveiling the one-year deal at the company’s headquarters in Blantyre Thursday, Kukoma Sponsorship Coordinator Violet Kapolo said the sponsorship is part of their continued relationship with sports.
“We help sports in general. This time around, realising that our product Kukoma is commonly used by women, we have decided to commit to the K20 million sponsorship deal with the club which will now be called Kukoma Ntopwa Women’s Football Club. We want to help in promoting women’s football in Malawi while also promoting our brand.
“We are involved in sports because it is part of our corporate social responsibility. We have Kukoma Diamonds in netball and Kukoma Yellow in basketball. Now we are sponsoring women’s football through Kukoma Ntopwa Women’s Football Club,” Kapolo said.
She urged the team’s management and players to utilise the sponsorship by improving performance.

The team is currently topping the country’s women’s league, five points clear of the second-placed one.
On his part, Kukoma Ntopwa FC Director Isaac ‘Jomo’ Osman pledged to give the sponsors value for money.
Osman said the team, which had Ntopwa Super Queens and Ntopwa Super Girls under its wing some years ago, has proper structures to yield desired results.
“Apart from the main team, we also have under-14 and under-16 teams. To us, the K20 million is like K100 million. We believe it will go a long way in easing challenges the players face. Now they will have game bonuses, training allowances and we may even put them on salary. Supporting the team has not been easy because some of the players go to school and tuition fees and other needs come from the club.

“So the sponsorship will surely bring positive results. People should look out for surprises. This is an opportunity for us to prove to sponsors that whoever invests in football will get something back. People should expect fireworks from Amaghetto Kids,” Osman, whose team lifted the 2022 Fam National Women’s championship, said.
