Singer and guitarist Peter Mawanga of the ‘Amakhala Ku Blantyre’ fame has cast his net wider in his artistry by opening a recording studio.
The Lilongwe-based musician, who has travelled the world with his music, flying Malawi’s flag, added to the recording studio a music school.
Named Amaravi Music School and Amaravi Records, the ‘Tsoka’ creator said Monday it has been his long-time dream to put in place a studio and school.
“The studio and school are coming from afar but everything has its own time and God’s time is now. Through the studio and the school, I am looking forward to doing a lot, in terms of helping artists grow their music,” Mawanga said.
He said the studio, apart from offering recording sessions to artists, would open up for creatives to do their rehearsals in preparation for concerts.

“We, at the school, will be doing vocal coaching, guitar lessons, drum lessons, piano lessons and lessons on African instruments such as Sansi, Mangolongondo and Chisekesese,” Mawanga said.
He said, with other studios and music schools, he was complimenting them with the aim of elevating the creative industry.
“As I have indicated, this is a dream that has been there for years and, so, the idea is to help musicians grow their music, do it better and, on top of that, help in promoting and preserving pour culture through playing of traditional instruments,” Mawanga said.
Last year, the artist held a number of concerts.
