Reverend Anderson Juma has been elected Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Blantyre Synod General Secretary after defeating incumbent Billy Gama at the 34th biennial assembly underway in Blantyre.
Juma got 192 votes against Gama’s 186.
Four hundred and sixty one delegates voted during the election to bring to an end the reign of Gama, who was eyeing four more years of service.

On the position of Synod Moderator, Reverend Humphrey Zgambo downed incumbent Edna Navaya with 237 votes against 166 votes.
The position of Vice Synod Moderator has gone to Reverend Annie Kapinda, who amassed 230 votes to oust position holder Reverend Ernest Mpate, who accumulated 169 votes.
The development means that all the office-bearers who were seeking re-election have been kicked out.
Juma, who is the moderator for Namaka CCAP in Chiradzulu District, said he is aware of the daunting task that lies ahead.

“I am happy that my dream has come true as I have been entrusted with the responsibility of managing the season. My promise is that we would like to take a new direction to look at the spiritual welfare of people by seeing the church moving in a direction that God wants,” Juma said.
Chairperson for the organising committee of the conference James Chuma said everything went well.
“We have witnessed a peaceful, credible and well organised election that the synod has conducted,” Chuma said.
The five-day biennial assembly continues until this coming Thursday, when delegates are expected to tackle other pertinent matters.
