Vice President Saulos Chilima has called on well-wishers to support the Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS), which is looking for K100 million through cycling-for-humanity activity from Lilongwe to Blantyre.
On Friday last week, the society launched its Flag Week with the intention of raising K160 million for use in bailing out disaster survivors.
Speaking during the sendoff of cyclists on Monday, Chilima hailed MRCS for easing the suffering of disaster survivors.
He said his office would donate K1.5 million to the cause.

“We wish all those that are cycling all the best so that they should travel safely. These people need to be supported. The money that is needed is huge but if we, Malawians, join hands, we can give more than what is needed,” Chilima said.
On his part, MRCS President Innocent Majiya said every year, the organisation has a Flag Week, when they celebrate their work.
He said, this year, they are celebrating with cyclists who have volunteered to cycle to Blantyre.
“The cyclists are expected to be in Blantyre by Wednesday. This year, we want to raise K160 million towards the cause of helping people that have been affected by disasters and, through the cycling activity, we are expected to raise K100 million, which will go a long way in helping people that are in need,” Majiya said.
