The 2025 TNM Super League title race took a new twist Wednesday as defending champions Silver Strikers piled pressure on leaders Mighty Wanderers and second-placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
This followed their 2-1 victory over Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
Substitute Binwell Katinji scored the winner in the 80th minute after Marko Chiwaya had cancelled out Chinsinsi Maonga’s opener in the first half.
Following the win, Silver remain third with 26 points from 13 matches, one point behind Bullets, who will face Mzuzu City Hammers at Rumphi Stadium in Rumphi District this afternoon.
Silver are now seven points behind leaders Mighty Wanderers after playing the same number of matches.
However, Silver cannot overtake Wanderers in the battle for top spot in the first round as both teams have remained with two matches.
At this stage, the battle for the first lap is between Wanderers and Bullets.
The Nomads have remained with Chitipa United and Civil Service United.
If they get maximum points in the two matches, they will reach 40 points.
On the other hand, Bullets, who trail Wanderers by six points, have remained with three matches against Hammers, Mafco and Karonga United.
Bullets’ maximum points tally in the first round is 36.
But twist and turns in the title race are expected in the second round.
Silver coach Peter Mgangira said he was happy with the win.
“It was a tough match but the players showed great character,” he said.
Dedza coach Alex Ngwira said he was disappointed with the result.
“It is unfortunate that we lost the match but the players did a good job,” he said.
Dedza remain 12th on the log table with 15 points from 14 matches.
