Jamming machine Skeffa Chimoto, rapper Gwamba, Driemo and Tonga beats star Machuluka on Saturday shared the stage in a rare outing at the Summer Slam concert organised by Thom’s Park, led by Thomson Madulira, at Club 24/7 in Blantyre.
The concert, which went all the way to the early hours of Sunday, delayed to start, disappointing some of the fans.
There were other performances before the main acts on the line-up took over, starting off with Machuluka, maker of songs such as ‘Ndaziya Iwi’ and ‘Zowala’.
Performing for the first time at the entertainment hub, Machuluka kept the stage vibrant with his Tonga beats, which resonated with a section of the audience.
The Lilongwe-based musician apologised to the audience for not performing with a band, saying this was due to circumstances beyond his control.

Despite being his debut performance, Machuluka still kept his composure and took people on a journey of his Tonga tunes, showing “the beauty of valuing our own culture”.
“I am proud to be a Tonga and, through my music, I want to show the beauty of being a Tonga. I am happy that a number of artists are doing the same,” he said.
Armed with a walking stick that is used by many Tonga menfolk, Machuluka dished out a number of songs and finished off with ‘Zowala’, a song that talks about the beauty of a wedding.
He left the stage for Gwamba, whose act was supported by the presence of Kell Kay, who joined him later for collaboration including the track ‘Mr Yesu’.

“I always put 100 percent in my performances no matter where I am performing. The support here is massive,” the ‘Fumbi’ star said.
Gwamba, who performed with a band, said he is working on a new song with an international artist that will drop soon.
“People should just watch the space. Again, we are planning another big show next year. Preparations are at an advanced stage,” he said.
After Gwamba came Skeffa and Real Sounds Band.
Chimoto performed for some time, including songs such as ‘Chiyambi’ and ‘Kankha’ before leaving the stage for Driemo.
“Let me commend organisers for staging a show involving different artists. I have enjoyed every moment,” he said.
Skeffa also said he would be releasing a single soon and that he would also be holding a show next month at Wakawaka as the venue will be celebrating its anniversary.
Driemo, who also had another performance in Mangochi, performed at the concert late on, jumping to the stage around 3am.
He performed without a band but his itinerary did not skip songs such as ‘Mojo’, ‘Compensation’, ‘Pano’ and ‘Popo’.
The artist, who has won the hearts of many women with his romantic tunes, opened his set with the track ‘Lere’, which he performed with Skeffa.
