Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has come under attack for alleged biasness after shortlisting some coaches to attend a Caf C coaching course when their time is not ripe, Times Sport can reveal.
The pandemonium comes after Fam shortlisted 30 coaches to attend the course, which is scheduled for Mpira Village in Blantyre on Monday.
A section of coaches from the country’s three regions have expressed discontent with the way Fam has selected coaches, saying they have ripped National Football Coaches
Association (NFCA) constitution, which stipulates that no coach should upgrade within two years after completion of another course.

According to Titus Thombozi, coach for Mchinji Police Eagles, some coaches [names withheld] attended the previous Caf C course in August this year, making them ineligible to upgrade this year.

“These are the coaches who just attended the August course held a few months ago. It is now almost two months down the line but they are appearing on the list. What is this?
“We have coaches who have served the required period but they have not been included,” Thombozi said.
Another coach from Nkhotakota John Phillip, who trains Sens Academy, echoed the sentiments.
“I did my Fam C in 2018 and I now deserve to upgrade but I have been left out. We have a lot of coaches who deserve to upgrade,” he said.

However, NFCA Chairperson Aubrey Nankhuni, while accepting the flaws, said his committee is overwhelmed with a high number of coaches who would like to upgrade.
“The problem is we are not in control. Caf trains 30 coaches per programme for a specific period. We have over 2,700 coaches across the country who want to upgrade. How can we admit them all?” Nankhuni asked.
He said NFCA will consult Fam to solve the problems.
“As a leader, I will engage our colleagues at Fam to see how best we can solve the matter amicably and in the best interest of every coach despite being challenged on the figures,” he said
Fam Technical Director Benjamin Kumwenda could not be reached for a comment while general secretary Alfred Gunda promised to come back to us.
He was yet to do so when we went to press.
