Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) Chairperson Sunduzwayo Madise Wednesday bade farewell to fellow board members.
In an interview Wednesday, Madise said the decision was made to allow the country’s leadership to a new board.
“It has always been a tradition that, with a change of government, statutory boards stand dissolved. In accordance with procedure, I now formally relinquish authority to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Principal Secretary and the Comptroller of Statutory Corporations, who assume oversight responsibilities in the absence of a constituted board,” Madise said in a written message.
He said is now preparing handover notes.
“I believe the President-elect [Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika] must be given a clean slate to appoint a board. It is a relay race. Chipako chopatsirana. I think it is the right thing to do,” he said.

Madise hailed fellow board members for working with him to achieve goals during his reign.
“This was my third opportunity to serve in this role, yet I remain ever aware that no chairperson can be effective without the dedication, counsel and teamwork of the members.
“Together, we have walked a meaningful journey and while our official duties may now come to a close, I trust that the friendships, goodwill and spirit of service we have shared will continue to bind us whenever our paths may lead,” he said.
The lawyer and football administrator was maintained as council chairperson in April this year.

During his second term, Madise introduced sports guidelines for sports associations to enhance efficiency.
Charles Ulaya is the current vice chairperson.
Other board members include Alufeyo Chipanga, Dabwitso Hara, Chigomezgo Kimberly Nyasulu and Proud Chalira.
Former Chess Association of Malawi president Susan Namangale resigned from her position as board member last month.
