Malawi Women’s National Football Team star Tabitha Chawinga continues to hog the limelight in France after she was given a National Union of Professional Footballers Players UNFP) award in the women’s category.
The ceremony was held at the Pavilion d Armenonville in Paris on Monday night.
Tabitha was also named the best Forward of the Season in the women’s category.
This comes few days after she won the D1 Arkema Player of the Season award following her impressive performance for PSG Women in her debut season.
Tabitha is the leading goalscorer in the French Feminine League with 18 goals, six above Ada Hegerberg of Olympique Lyonnais with one match to go.
Interestingly, PSG Women will face Lyonnais in the final on Friday.
In an interview from France Tuesday, Tabitha said she was delighted with the accolade.
“It feels great to win two awards. I am really motivated. This is a motivation to the girl child. The sky is the limit,” she said.
The Scorchers’ striker beat teammate Grace Geroyo, Sakina Karchoui, Herdeberg and Lindsey Horan (who both play for Lyon).
Tabitha has succeeded Delphine Cascarino, who won the award last year.
Meanwhile, National Women’s Football Association Chairperson Adelaide Migogo has lauded Tabitha for scaling greater heights.
“We, as a country, have made great strides in terms of women’s football development. Tabitha and her sister Temwa have done us proud,” Migogo said.
Tabitha has a rich history of winning golden boot awards in her debut season in all the countries she has played in since her move to Sweden in 2014.
In addition, the 27-year-old Malawian was named Player of the Season in China while playing for Jiang Sunning in 2018 and 2019.
Last year, she won a similar award while playing for Inter Milan Women in Italy, where she scored 23 goals in 21 matches.
In the men’s category, PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, who is set to leave the club after seven years, won a similar award.
