In October 2025, President Peter Mutharika issued an Executive Order for some four public bodies, including Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec), to move from Lilongwe back to where they were headquartered in Blantyre and Zomba.
Mec is the only body that has not moved, with its relocation the only one that has attracted legal battles.
