New Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Technical Director Yvon Avry has said his primary role is to help the country benefit from youth talent and help the Malawi National Football Team qualify for major events.
The Frenchman outlined his mission during his unveiling at Mpira Village in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre Friday.
“Youth football is the backbone of the association’s long-term development agenda. I will build on its existing initiatives while introducing additional programmes intended to develop the game further. I will also submit such programmes for consideration,” Avry said.
He said he intends to establish strong youth structures because they were essential for producing a competitive national team.
“My focus is on creating solid youth programmes that will set the right foundation. If we stick properly, Malawi will have a strong national team in the years ahead,” he said. to the plan and implement it

Avry began his role in September following a recruitment process approved by the world football body—Fifa—and Confederation of African Football (Caf).
Fam president Fleetwood Haiya stated that the association cannot envision football development without personnel equipped with necessary expertise.
“With the arrival of Yvon, we are reaffirming our commitment to developing grassroots football, which is a key part of our strategic plan for player export.
