Police in Lilongwe on Friday arrested 29-year-old Lester Maganga in connection with the death of Coca-Cola former employee Allan Witika, who was found dead in his car in Lilongwe’s Area 15.
Malawi Police Service (MPS) spokesperson Peter Kalaya confirmed the development in a statement Sunday.
Witika, a Coca-Cola Beverages sales and marketing manager, was found dead in his car on September 20 this year, just a short distance from his house in Lilongwe’s Area 15.
Witika’s death in September this year, alongside that of Reserve Bank of Malawi official Agnes Katengeza, sent shockwaves among Malawians and ignited questions about the level of security in the country.
Kalaya said Maganga has been charged with murder and will appear in court today.

“Malawi Police Service (MPS) wishes to inform the public that it has arrested Lester Maganga, a key suspect in the [alleged] murder of Allan Witika, a Coca-Cola Beverages sales and marketing manager, which happened in Area 15 in Lilongwe on September 20 2023.
“MPS assures Malawians that it is keenly following up [on] all murder cases that were recently reported to arrest and bring those responsible to justice,” Kalaya said.
MPS deputy spokesperson Alfred Chimthere told The Daily Times Sunday that “preliminary investigations have revealed that Witika and the suspect Maganga once dated the same woman and the two had been quarrelling over the matter”.
Maganga comes from Chikumbu Village, Traditional Authority Chikumbu, in Mulanje District.
