Malawi Women’s National Football Team strikers Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga have been nominated for the 2025 EA Sports FC Team of the Year.
EA Sports released the list of nominees yesterday. Both Tabitha and Temwa were nominated following their impressive performances in 2025 with their respective clubs.
The two Malawian players were nominated alongside Barcelona forward Caroline Graham Hansen, Arsenal duo Alessia Russo and Mariona Caldentey, Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw, Linda Caicedo, Clara Mateo, Esther Gonzalez and Kadidiatou Dianni.
Temwa, who plays for Kansas City Current, solidified her status as one of the best women’s footballers in the world after retaining the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
She also retained the golden boot after scoring 15 goals in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Temwa expressed her honour at the nomination. “It feels great to be nominated among the best players in the world,” she said.
She broke several records in the NWSL for two consecutive years. In her debut season in 2024, Temwa was the first player to win the NWSL golden boot with 20 goals.
She finished 17th in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings. Last week, she made ESPN’s top five female players in the world.
Tabitha had a strong season with Olympique Lyonnais, scoring six goals in the league. She was also delighted with her nomination. “I am humbled and honoured,” she said.
