The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) has committed to bringing order among different service providers that fall under its jurisdiction.
This follows complaints by the Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) and others over low quality ICT and communication-related services.
Speaking during a quality service meeting on Tuesday in Lilongwe, Macra Director of Communications Edward Kauka said the regulator has been receiving a lot of complaints regarding quality of services in the telephone industry and data.
He said it was high time it brought all stakeholders together and discussed the way forward on service provision.

“Telecommunication is a very vital tool in terms of development. For people to do business and communicate, there is a need to have such services. So for these companies to have quality services, there is a need for multisector discussion like the ones we are having today,” Kauka said.
Cama Executive Director John Kapito said many consumers have been complaining about mobile money and communication services.
He said the cost of communication in the country is very high and they already reported to Macra on the same.
“You can all agree with me that data bundles are high. This mobile money must be acting like a bank whereby if the money is kept for so long it has to make profit,” Kapito said.

Last year, Cama described as ‘unfair’ the upward price adjustment of voice, short messaging service and data services.
