Malawi and Zimbabwe have agreed to deepen bilateral relations.
Second Vice President Principal Press Officer Davie Gadama told The Daily Times yesterday that Malawi’s Second Vice President Enock Chihana and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa made the commitment after meeting on the sidelines of the 46th Ordinary Summit of Southern African Development Community (Sadc) Heads of State and Government in Durban, South Africa.
Gadama said the two leaders reaffirmed commitments to closer cooperation in key areas of the economy and mutual interest.
The high-level discussion explored opportunities to expand economic and development partnerships between the countries.

In his remarks, Chihana conveyed a message of appreciation from President Peter Mutharika, who described Zimbabwe as a strategic partner for economic development.
“We talked about many issues but the most critical ones were regional cooperation and how to deal with economic challenges in the Sadc region, trade facilitation, security collaboration and investment opportunities,” Chihana said.
On his part, the Zimbabwean leader said Malawi and Zimbabwe shared a special relationship.
Chihana is leading the Malawi delegation to the 46th Sadc Summit on behalf of Mutharika.
