Music Crossroads Malawi on Tuesday hosted an open masterclass aimed at making creatives understand the 21st century musician.
The programme was facilitated by Sunniva Hovde, who is an Associate Professor in Music at the Department of Teacher Education in Norway.
“It was all about sharing and figuring out how to use our strengths to keep our business going and how we can move on as musicians in the 21st century,” Sunniva, who is also a musician and plays an accordion, said.
Music Crossroads Malawi Director Mathews Mfune hailed Sunniva for conducting what he described as a thought-triggering masterclass.
“This masterclass is timely and has inspired our creatives and also acted as an orientation into the year 2026 to help spark collaborations and social development,” Mfune said.

He said they decided to start 2026 with the masterclass to give creatives a direction.
“This is also the beginning of more masterclasses to come,” he said.
Mfune also said they wanted more young people to enroll at the academy.
“The music landscape or creative landscape is changing and, so, creatives out there have to be at par with the world and not be left behind,” he said.
