Local Government, Unity and Culture Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda has expressed excitement with the progress of construction works at Mwanza Stadium.
President Lazarus Chakwera commissioned the facility’s construction works in January.
Chimwendo Banda toured the project on Friday to appreciate its progress.
He said it is pleasing that the contractor is done with putting up a fence and is now erecting some structures inside the facility.
“I am happy that there is good progress here. I did not expect that the contractor would have gone this far by now. I am not only impressed with the pace of the construction works but also quality.
“From what I have seen on the ground, there is good coordination among the district council, the contractor, community members and traditional leaders. I am sure that by October this year, phase one of the project will be completed, in line with what the President [Lazarus Chakwera] wants,” Chimwendo Banda said.

He said the project has helped in creating job opportunities for people in the district.
“This is part of the government’s agenda of creating jobs for people in the country,” the minister said.
Mwanza Central parliamentarian Nicholas Dausi hailed government for the project.
“Mwanza was one of the districts that had no stadia but we are pleased that the President has ensured that works begin. We hope the project will be completed in time,” Dausi said.
